keeps freezing only mouse is working but cannot click anywhere
any idea why? i read there is a solution to pass to grub for i7 processo but there is no grub anymore...

geo mouse is working but cannot click anywhere

This may not be your problem, but I've had a similar result when the mouse batteries need to be changed/recharged. It appears that, with my Logitech mouses, the mouse cursor still moves around and points to stuff when there is not enough of a signal to respond to clicks. Trying fresh batteries (or recharged ones) is a simple way to eliminate one possible cause.

I've had similar problems with my xps 15. I have switched to the LTS kernel for now and have not had any freezes since.

I keep having these in Solus Budgie as well with the current kernel. LTS helps (but breaks other things).

WetGeek I've had that too with my Logitech wireless mice - it's always middle-click that stops working first!

synth-ruiner I've had that too with my Logitech wireless mice

I learned long ago that if you use a wireless mouse, or a wireless keyboard, it's best to keep a wired version around for emergencies. Like setting up a new computer, or installing a new OS, where the drivers haven't yet been loaded for those wireless devices.

Usually those things either come free with a computer, or they can be had online for a couple dollars. So when throwing out junk you never thought you'd need, be careful to leave yourself at least one wired mouse and keyboard.

The wired mouse can also help when the batteries are gone in your wireless mouse. It's an easy way to eliminate the mouse/batteries as a cause.

WetGeek I endorse this preparation and this PSA. Older BIOS don't always have a legacy enable entry and many old BIOS were pre-wireless.
You may have to drag a bunch of crap out of the shed to find it, but you'll be lad you saved it on that day.

geo I am having the same issue with 4.1 Gnome with i5 7200U, 8GB RAM, Intel HD 620. The issue occurs for me playing youtube videos and leaving them idle for some time. I had the same issue with both firefox and brave. This typically occurs once every 3-4 hours. When freezing occurs, audio from the video still plays but everything is frozen and requires a hard boot to escape.

WetGeek sorry but you re completely off topic. It s the system that freezes, even with a cable keyboard and mouse. Mouse keeps workin even if wireless but all the rest is gone and it needs a hard reboot. Hope you understand it s not a battery/wireless thing. It s a system freeze!

geo Are you able to open a new TTY session (CTRL+ALT+F3) after the freeze? I've had this issue periodically for the past couple of months and have been able to reset by changing to a different TTY session and running,

              systemctl restart lightdm

If this sounds like your problem, what make/model computer are you on? There's a running issue on the Budgie Github issues with a bunch of Dell XPS users.

This issue is resolved for me after new updates. I no longer experience any kind of freezing.

n2o I also experienced crashes with one program after the LTS kernel updated. I thought that the LTS kernel would be more reliable.

It's strange, but I have not experienced such problem while using Zorin 15. It uses Linux kernel 5.3.

lekkerlinux Hm I must admit that I switched my main laptop back to Mint a while ago because I've got to get some work done. Just following along here to see when things get better.

n2o Yes, that's the most important thing for me! To get on with it. Not having to fix stuff that breaks every two weeks after a update.

Solus has gotten better since I tried it out in May 2019, but don't have the level of refinement of Zorin 15.1.

Solus is more for people who like to play around with their PC as a hobby. Like Arch and even Debian.

I have a solution to this.
                  Will post it later today.
