Installing python IDLE

I tried installing the python IDLE for Linux from the official site. I believe I installed the gzipped source tarball one. I extracted it, but it was just a bunch folders and files. I couldn't find any executable files which brought up the IDLE. I've never programmed on or have much experience with Linux. I'm familiar with windows.

idle3 is directly available in the python3 package. Chances are you even already have it installed.

You can just run idle3 from a terminal. We removed the default menu entries after people kept thinking we were install unnecessary packages on their system.

DataDrake Thanks for your response. I entered idle3 and it opened the IDLE as you said. However, for some reason, it opens as a Firefox window, not as its own. Do you know how to fix this?
