I checked that all the necessary files are present: libimobiledevice, usbmuxd, idevice, but I can't make Solus connect through the iPhone to the internet as it does with other distros. I even tried terminal to manually enter the usbmuxd using sudo, but the command just errors out. Can't Solus support this kind of internet connection?

The easiest way is probably to turn on connection sharing on your iPhone and then just join the Wifi it creates.

So, Solus is not capable of USB Tethered connections like Linux Mint? What, if all the usual files are present, regarding the construct of Solus prevents that from happening?

Solus is definitely capable of USB-tethered connections, at least when it comes to Android phones (just tried it with my Nokia). Was as simple as connecting it via USB and activating USB tethering on my phone.
Not sure what steps would be necessary to make it work with an iPhone.

OK. Your reply was both short and not helpful. Too bad. I actually liked the look of Solus. Guess I'll wipe the drive and try another distro.

    a month later

I've returned with an apology. This install of Solus was given the opportunity to update, something I didn't, I guess, allow on the first try. Having done the updates this time I discovered that my iPhone had the access I didn't have the last time. The files libimobiledevice, usbmuxd and idevice were installed and I'm now able to use the USB tethering I need. So a sheepish thanks to those of you who stepped in to help.
