Virtualbox resolution not adjusting; monitor's resolution not shown

I have installed Solus 4.1 in Virtualbox but for some reason the resolution doesn't want to change automatically after installing the virtualbox-guest-current package. I also do not see the resolution of my monitor in the drop down of the display settings either. Anyone know what is going on or can help me get this working? Do I need to install the guest additions manually from virtualbox?

Also, on an unrelated note, is there a way to remove the password requirements? I am the only one to use my machine and I don't need a long password. I did a search and thought I found the solution but it did not work.

Have you rebooted since installing the guest additions?

You may be able to set a blank password using the passwd command in your terminal.

Justin Hi Justin, thanks for replying! I am sorry I forgot to mention that I did restart after installing the guest additions.

I will try setting a blank password.

Edit: Yes adding a blank password using the passwd command did work 🙂

Since Virtualbox 6, the default graphic controller for linux hosts is VMSVGA. This controller does not automatically adjust the screen resolution. You have to set it as you would do on a physical host : Menu -> Display

The behaviour you are looking for is the one of the legacy graphic controler VBoxVGA.

PS: Using the search would save you and us lot of time since this was already answered a couple of times before!

kyrios My apologies kyrios, I didn't realize this had already been answered before. I should have searched.

I looked through the posts you linked and was able to figure out how to add 1920x1080 to the display list with xrandr.
