Clipboard issue (?)

I don't really know if it is a Solus problem or Libreoffice specific issue, but sometimes when i cut or copy something in Libreoffice writer and then try to paste it somewhere (be it in writer itself or anywhere else) i get previous stuff i copied and not the current. I don't think i notice that behavior when doing work not involving Libreoffice. Where could i begin the search for the cause of this issue?

I would have to concur with this issue. I've been experiencing it for awhile. I basically always double tap CTRL+C to make sure I get the right item to paste. Not so great when trying to cut (CTRL+X) and paste. You end up needing to undo because it cut's the item out, but the paste, like mentioned by @DNI_R ends up being the previous item copied. So now I add an additional step of the double copy, pasting, then going back and deleting the item I wanted to cut and paste.

A very annoying issue when you do a lot of copying/cutting and pasting. I experience it both in Libreoffice and in Master PDF Editor. As I've been experiencing the issue for quite some time, it's not likely from the latest update.

Anything we can do to debug this issue?

DNI_R This could be related to the fact that X Windows uses multiple clipboards and sometimes apps are inconsistent in which clipboard they use. You can check if that's the case with xclip. The two most common clipboard names are primary and, well, clipboard. Try inspecting their contents and see if the previously as well as currently copied text is there, just in different clipboards:

xclip -o -sel primary 
xclip -o -sel clipboad

jujey Is that app Firefox by any chance? There is a long-standing bug on Linux where FF clears the clipboard upon closing.

I've had an issue similar but in a different way, every time I copy text and then quit the app where I copied the text from and try to paste it somewhere else it doesn't work, I need the app to be opened for me to be able to paste it elsewhere.

paracetamol I tried using xclip. So when the selection is copied normally, clipboard output is that exact selection. When copying fails and i get previous selection pasted in the document, command outputs: Error: target STRING not available. When i use the command with primary it always outputs that error, so maybe it's not used in this case or something else.

I read the bug report response (datadrake) at dev. I concur.
I used all possibilities here:
*madly cut and paste and wrote and cut and pasted between firefox, libre writer, gedit, and focus writer.
*closed programs as I cut an pasted

after 15 minutes could not duplicate any of the scenarios in this thread in an updated 4.1 budgie.

I wonder what the common variable is that binds all your results the same? Corrupted script somewhere?

I'm not running an scripts per se. However, in an effort to provide all details, I am running "ClipIt" in the tray. I've tried closing it, and experienced the same issues. However, I don't know if it is altering the behaviour of the clipboard in the background and therefore closing it would not really disable whatever it changed...

No, I don't use anything like that.
And no scripts as far as i know (i never really delved into something like that).

I tried this and the same is true...

Example:

echo "Primary";xclip -o -sel primary;echo -e "\nClipboard";xclip -o -sel clipboard;echo

Output (expected):

Primary
xclip -o -sel primary 
xclip -o -sel clipboad
Clipboard
250.00

Output (error):

Primary
xclip -o -sel primary 
xclip -o -sel clipboad
Clipboard
Error: target STRING not available

So it has the error message with a carriage return that isn't usually there when the contents are as expected.

Here's another stupid conjecture: can Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V and/or doing it right-click with context menu....can those simple keystrokes become atrophied or corrupted over time depending on circumstance?

Actually that's interesting, because it feels that almost every second selection fails for me when using right click menu, with keyboard keys it's much less frequent occasion. The other weird thing - i don't get previous selection when copying fails with right click menu, it outputs nothing - no previous selection... I never noticed that, because i mostly use keystrokes, but this is strange.

@paracetamol And with the right click menu, xclip behaviour is a bit different. When copying fails i get the same error as i mentioned above, but when copying succeeds i get correct selection with both primary and clipboard, not unlike with keystrokes when only clipboardoutputs the correct selection and primary outputs the same error.

I have been experiencing the same thing, mostly in LibreOffice, for me it tends to not paste anything at all or sometimes the previous copied text. It will generally work the second time the text is copied.

I still have this issue if i copy and paste through the context menu. But it seems to be gone (or very rare) when i use keystrokes (ctrl-c, crtl-v).
In dev tracker Josh said that this is an issue with Mutter (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/1113), so it's up to them to fix it.
