As the title suggests, I guess this is a kernel issue because before the 4.0 update I had never had this kind of issues. After waking up from sleep, neither the keyboard nor the touchpad work (Ironically, usb wireless ones do work). I must hard shut it down.

Also, the screen seems brighter at the same level than before (2 bars of brightness). I doubt these things are changed with each update. Or are they? In any case, how would I go about editing this? I'm no linux guru but I know enough to terminal my way into / and sudo gedit files, lol.

I checked, and this hasn't been reported

The only solution for me so far has been reverting
sudo eopkg hs -t number

I was really happy before, everything was flawless.

After reverting, things have gone back to its pristine flawless state 🙂. Really, it surprises me how perfect one instance can be after several problemless updates and then one damned update ticks something off.

I still love Solus tho, don't get me wrong team <3. Cuz once Solus hits that sweet spot and it's in the zone, it truly is vastly superior to all rubbish out there!

I'd suggest trying to upgrade one thing at a time and see which package causes the break. Then report it over at the Bug Tracker.
