I wrote about it in another thread.
https://discuss.getsol.us/d/3435-budgie-lockups-after-most-recent-update-to-5-4-kernel/14
But I think I'm gonna open up my own thread about it. Because this problem still exists (for me at least) and I don't know what the reason is and how to fix.
I've a kinda weird "workaround" for it tho.
Since the last update with the 5.4 Kernel etc. when I boot up my Solus system, the
process takes up very high CPU load. Especially when using/moving mouse cursor or windows. Up to like 70% CPU load. When I do nothing it is around 8% even when no window is open.
My first thought was, that has something to do with 5.4 kernel and/or latest Nvidia drivers from the last update. But the problem is, the same stuff happens even when booting with the 5.3 kernel. I tried to disable Composition Pipeline options in Nvidia settings. Problem still there.
I used my weekly backup made before the update, and the problem is not there with the 5.3 kernel.
The weird thing is, when I reboot into Solus-bootmenu and choose 5.3 (budgie-wm still has the same problem with high CPU load) and then reboot AGAIN into Solus-bootmenu and choose 5.4 kernel.. then budgie-wm acts as it should be, no more high CPU load for no reason. And the System is stable again.
And 5.4 also gives me many problems in some games, weird glitches and crashes. Which 5.3 does not.
My System is:
Ryzen 1700+
16 GB Ram
Nvidia 1080
nvme samsung 970 evo for my Solus system.
Edit: So this issue seems to be "fixed" / gone now with the update from yesterday. Still do not know what caused it. But kernel 5.4 works now, no more budgie-wm issues (so far at least).
