al_l_en It would be really nice if the gpu is setup out of the box to be used like that in windows. I really hope that it happens in Solus. Now it is really hard to setup and often ends up in a disaster
kyrios al_l_en You just have to launch DoFlicky (Hardware Drivers) and it will let you know and install proprietary drivers if you need some. There is no automatic switch but there is nothing complex : it's just about installing/uninstalling the proprietary nvidia drivers.
kyrios stalebrim echo 'blacklist nouveau' | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/10_blacklist_nouveau.conf If the directory doesn't exists, just create it first. It can also be blacklisted with some kernel parameters but this is usually done for temporary things like testing.
stalebrim kyrios Ah, that's apparently the same as just switching the integrated graphics on from UEFI. Then at least bbswitch won't see any discrete graphics. I was looking if the discrete NVIDIA could be powered off on T430, but apparently that's not possible due to design.
al_l_en Installing and uninstalling drivers every time I need to use gpu and when not using gpu is not easy, frankly it's not pragmatic.
al_l_en Justin Yes. I was asking exactly about that, can we hope for automatic switching or atleast a manual switch using nvidia optimus?
Justin I also honestly think dual GPU switching should be done at the hardware level, one card presented to the OS, then if the low-powered card is being taxed it calls on the stronger card to help.
