Hey guys i finished removing windows from my pc and i installed solus about an hour ago. TH problem is that it wont shutdown or reboot. The screen freezes. Anyone knows how to fix it

Odd, have you tried it at cli to see if same behavior appears? if so, I'm guessing it's a hardware error of some sort.

I had the same issue, in fact it would freeze right after the installation process - on the reboot prompt. I was able to solve this by installing proprietary nvidia drivers for the right kernel. In hindsight it could've been the fact that usysconf run -f was launched behind the scenes.

And as a response to @dbarron I had the same behaviour through CLI as well

michaeltintiuc so lets say i have a gtx 1050 4g vram and i want to install nvidia drivers, how do i do it? I am a total newb 🙂

Enderboi search for hardware drivers on your app menu and select the found app then click on the driver and press install (check the 32bit driver aswell if you plan on playing windows games through wine or proton). Also about the freezes I exeperienced them too but this is unrelated to solus, rather to the nvidia gpu.

realProngsDark The funny this is that i just did it and it asked me to restart in order to complete the installation and when i pressed restart the screen turned black and i had to force the shut down with the power button xD. I wanna kms

Enderboi It will do that yes. Just restart it manualy from the button. If it is a laptop holding the power button for 10 seconds should do it. After you power your machine back on again you should not experience this problem anymore.

Does it work if you try shutdown from the command-line (command poweroff)?

Some older machines may also have trouble shutting down, I've experienced that with some older Optiplex computers. BIOS update usually helps on these.

I don't know if this helps you but it will help maybe some other people.
At the moment solus does not allow switching between gpus so after installing nvidia drivers you will notice massive power consumption which would drain your laptop's battery pretty quickly.
If you are inexperienced try installing tlp which is a tool that automatically tweaks some settings for battery saving.

To do this open a terminal and type:
sudo eopkg it tlp
Enter your password and when prompted type y and press enter
Then type
sudo tlp start

TLP should now start every time you boot your computer so you don't have to automatically start it each time.

realProngsDark So lets say i have an intel hd graphics and a nvidia card will it swap from nvidia and intel? Or battery saving is just fine? Coz i am a gamer and i wanted to know if i can simply install steam and play games normally

Enderboi No tlp won't switch gpus just save you a little juice. There are some people that got bbswitch working which is a utility that allows you to turn off your nvidia card when not using it, but I've seen no good or definitive guide.

For me bbswitch never worked. I have GTX 960 M

Edit: You can play games just fine I guess, also you should have installed 32bit driver from hardware manager if you plan on playing windows games.
