So i have set Budgie up very nicely visually, but i am struggling with shortcuts.

I would like to set switch to next/prev workspace (to super+pgUp/Down) but:

  • there seems no switch to next/prev workspace in the shortcuts
  • super pgUp/Down is assigned, but to "Move" to workspace up/down. Since workspaces are linear in the switcher, i don't understand what that means. (Move in quotes as the language with Move and Switch seems inconsistent)
  • switch next/prev workspace has a shortcut (ctrl+alt+left/right). But when i assign a random action to this combo, it just lets me do it. But when i assign any other previously assigned combo, it warns me. wierd

It looks to me that somewhere in there is some unintentional behavior, but i would be happy if someone could explain how to assign this shortcut.
Thanks, Torsten

I am experiencing the same/similar problem. Budgie workspace shortcuts are activated, but fail to do anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Enable Workspaces GUI:

  1. Bring up Budgie desktop settings.
  2. Click Bottom Panel under Panel category in the left navigator.
  3. Click the Add Applet icon in the right window.
  4. Scroll down to locate and select Workspace Switcher.
  5. Click the Add Applet button in the top right of the dialogue/window.

A workspace switcher should display in the center of the bottom panel. To switch desktops, use CTL-ALT- and the applicable arrow key, depending upon which direction you desire to move.

Better yet, setup an Openbox and Tint2 desktop environment and use that instead. ;-)

An interesting find, without the applet I see no way of configuring how many virtual desktops are available. I've raised this with Josh as a possible addition to Budgie Settings.

@downhill 's post s not the answer to the question as far as I understand. I also have faced this issue and found this thread through google.

In Budgie there is a way to assign keyboard shortcuts to each workspace and switch to them (in my case super + a number), but I couldn't find any way to assign a shortcut to toggle to the last workspace.

If there is no existing way, I would like to suggest either of these two approaches to the Budgie Dev team:

  1. crude way to just jump to the previous workspace when pressing the keyboard shortcut
  2. same way as having a popup window when switching between applications (Alt + Tab), a popup pops open and show s small picture of workspaces so that the user can choose, and the list is ordered based on the order that those workspaces have been visited.
