Trouble Installing Solus

Hello,
I am trying to install Solus and have run into some issues. I started by burning a DVD and trying to boot it on an old HP DC7600 desktop. Solus attempted to boot, but encountered an error and I was left with just the terminal recovery mode, no X. I then tried again using another computer, a more modern HP Z600 desktop, but I encountered the same error. I am new to Solus and have very little Linux/Unix experience. Any suggestions?

Can you let us know what the error was about? That would greatly narrow down the possibilities.

There are geniuses here that install solus successfully with butter knives, two keystrokes, a westward wink, while binge-watching The Office, utilizing snorkels, and allen wrenches. In seconds.
Then there are my limited kind. Anytime I've wandered outside recommended parameters, including DVD? Fail.

I imagine it could have something to do with the DVD. Did you finalize the DVD when you burnt it or did you leave it open?

Astro224 interesting. I think it would be safe to assume that since you tried 2 separate machines with the same result that the only thing that stayed constant is the DVD itself. Do you perhaps happen to have a USB drive that you could wipe and use to boot from? (I haven't booted from DVD in years so my knowledge there has expired lol). From my experiences in the past I've had issues writing to CD's (back in Redhat 6 days) & DVD's. Sometimes the program I was using to write too wouldn't format the DVD properly so I'd be missing files etc. I have found using "Rufus" (if you're on windows) and writing to USB in "DD" mode to work perfectly for me.

nate yeah, I thought the same thing. I tried a bootable USB and had the same problem.

Wild... I'd be interested to see the error message. Have you had this issue with other OS's on these desktops? Have you tried downloading another .iso? Maybe there is a corruption in there. Weird that the computer won't boot into Live mode. Only issues with installation I've had is with UEFI and old BIOS. (Generally I just disable my UEFI on my older computers now)

nate Its really weird. I test booted Ubuntu off a DVD without issue, also successfully used Zorin OS a few years back with no trouble. I just figured Solus was some wierd distro that was super picky about what machines it ran on. I just don't know what to do.

nate I was thinking about your comment that the file was corrupt, and that seems to be the case. The iso download looks like it was cut off after only half the download was completed (as the file size isn't even a gigabyte). The iso was still able to be burned to the disk and was still partially bootable. I just tried downloading the iso and had problems with the download cutting off part way. Must be a problem with the mirrors or more likely my internet. I will have to re-download the iso tomorrow and try again. Thanks for your help and insight in finding the culprit. Cheers!

Astro224 Try the torrent download option, it will guarantee you have all the pieces and that they are all verified.
