We run Solus on a multimedia server connected to our TV for streaming purposes using Opera, e.g., Netflix, BritBox, and YouTube TV for local channels. I don't remember needing to install any special add-ins or other additional packages - everything just worked fine after installation.
Now I've changed my everyday laptop from Windows 10 to Solus, and I can't make the same thing work on it. (I'd like to be able to watch the news on my laptop while my wife watches a chick-flick on the TV.) It always worked without a problem while this machine was running on Win10.
I'm puzzled because this laptop and the multimedia machine are both running Solus 4.0 Budgie, on the stable repo, and both with current updates. It would seem to me that one ought to work as the other does, but any attempt to watch TV on the laptop just generates an error saying, "This video the format is not supported."
I can play all the standard videos on this laptop (even including .mkv files), but I don't have a clue about streaming to a browser. Does anyone know just what format is used for this streaming?
Does anyone have an idea what I should check next? Maybe a missing codec? Opera add-on?
ONE MORE CLUE: I just tried using Firefox for streaming, and it works fine. Seems to be an Opera issue, but Opera works fine elsewhere. Still puzzled.
