Thoughts on GoboLinux's alternative directory hierarchy?

I've been thinking about how imho FHS is too complicated. Recently I stumbled upon GoboLinux, a distrubution which along with many thing has created their own directory hierarchy which is more suited for the end-user. What are your thoughts on that?

NixOS also does something sorta similar. I think I like the idea..since due to links, it's compatible (both software and brain) with any other.

I think that as clunky and aging as the FHS is, it's still really important to support it otherwise you'll be patching a ton of software to support your non-standard hierarchy. Implementing a different hierarchy with links is just more confusing than anything. How are you supported to know what's the "right" directory for something without reading two standards and comparing at that point?
