Sorry if I didn't make it clear, I was aware of it being chopped in the 3.34 update, I read the blog posts before performing major updates to make sure something critical to me isn't being chopped, didn't see the point in keeping the distro out of date thought for the sake of keeping gnome pie installed.
Thanks for the links, have been through them and most google results I could find before posting but didn't spot anything similar to Pie. Most of the "best of x or y" articles tend to be copy paste of each other though and quite often have apps in that haven't been updated in years(Apwal, similar to gnome pie hasn't seen an update since 2004). I'm just throwing it out there to see if anyone is perhaps using something else that is kept up to date and possible kept in the software centre that I was missing due to weird naming or it being new & unknown.
Admittedly, I was getting along fine with what was provided out of the box until I stumbled on Gnome Pie and thought I would give it a try. Once you start using it, it just becomes so easy as you set your most used or favourite apps to a menu and that pops up slap bang at your mouse so you dont even have to move your mouse or move your hands to the keyboard to type.
I'm currently playing with Synapse, the downside being it requires keyboard access, upside being it makes it super easy to access frequently used files. I for instance have a number of spreadsheets I use on a daily basis. So instead of launching Calc and then using the "recent" items menu, I just hit ctrl+space and after the first2-3 letters of the file name Synapse brings that spreadsheet up. You win some, you lose some I guess :-) Might try Albert as well if I don't stick to Synapse.
