I need to find a way to save changes made to the /etc/default/grub linux command to actually get saved and ran at boot. In order to get Solus to boot on a Thinkpad E485, I have to pass ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0 spec_store_bypass_disable=prctl
to the linux command for grub, as per this article. The boot works after passing that command during startup, however I obviously don't want to have to enter that every time I boot. But the instructions to make the change permanent from that article don't work (running sudo update-grub
). When I first ran the update-grub, it gave a message "update-grub failed to connect to lvmetad," which according to this SO post could be due to not having a proper swap partition configured. That made me realize I hadn't properly made a swap partition, so I went and did that and also changed use_lvmetad = 0
in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf as per the post as well. The next step in that post was to run update-initramfs -k $(uname -r) -u ; sync
, which does not seem to be a tool Solus has. I'm a bit stumped for where to go now, my searching didn't show any way to install it, maybe I missed something though. Having use_lvmetad = 0
does seem to have stopped the error on update-grub, it runs now, but still doesn't save the command to use on boot, which isn't terribly surprising. I am not sure how to proceed from here, all this boot stuff is kinda beyond my comfort zone and I don't have a good sense of what can be done. Maybe there is some other way to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
