How to totally erase an external hard drive ?

Hello all ! I'm wondering whether there's a way, in Solus Budgie, to totally wipe an external disk drive, be it HDD or SSD, in order to, for example, sell it. I mean a wipe that does not allow the buyer to recover anything on the disk.
Any command line ? Any GUI ?

My suggestion would be GNOME Disk Utility, select the disk then click on the ⋮button next to the window controls, then Format Disk. Choose the "slow" option that overwrites the data with zeroes.

You could alternatively either run dd and either wipe it with zeroes or fill it with random data, just be sure you're targeting the right device. Also be aware that depending on the drive size and contents, it may take a very...very long time.
