Windscribe native Linux app

Hello,

Windscribe native Linux app is a VPN who can be controlled by the terminal.

It can be installed on : Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and CentOS.

Actually, thanks to the different ways to configure it in many distros, I would like to know if there is a way to make it possible in Solus too.

I think that's because in french (my native language), "I would like to know(...)" would be considered as an indirect question but whatever. Maybe this is better for everyone if so much tags are removed.

Anyone wants to help ?

They seem to talk big about privacy and then have a closed source client. You'd have to extract the deb file which is messy and dangerous as it could contain stuff that would overwrite basic system libraries if not careful.

Chose a VPN provider that has an open source client or even just openvpn files you can use on any distro.

Justin I understand. Windscribe is a good Canadian VPN but obviously it is not opensource at all.

I have good luck with Private Internet Access VPN. It installs it's client smoothly on most flavors of Linux (not Solus because it depends on the old nettools, which aren't still packaged with Solus), but it also provides openvpn files that should work on any, as Justin pointed out.

dbarron Well, I think I'm gonna use the openvpn configuration file who is provided too. That solution is just not useful to me because I can't save the password of the openvpn configuration file. 🙁 When I log in, I have to type the password over and over again. I can't bear it anymore. Someone knows how to possibly save the password in the configuration settings ?

alan-g59 Perhaps I'm misunderstanding but I believe you can save the password by clicking on the icon to the right of the password field and selecting "store password for all users".

Yes, if you do your research, you too can figure out how to hard code the password into the configuration files. It's not a good practice, but if you vpn on/off a lot, it saves typing. Research is good for the soul and imprints the information more firmly into the brain.

If it supports OpenVPN we have Qomui. Which coincidentally also supports WireGuard (haven't tried it on Solus, but don't think that works yet; option's there, though).
