Desktop environment

Hello Solus Community,

In advance sorry for the writting, doing this from a smartphone.
I am a Solus user since a while now. I always worked with Gnome Installation. By pure curiosity I wanted to give it a try to Budgie Desktop. So I used the command from your website eopkg it install budgie.desktop. So the command went well out of I had stuff that failed a service that could not be restarted Virtualdevice if I'm not mistaken, but from the software center its looked like Budgie was installed, however I did not know how to make the switch... I restarted nothing, so I decided to remove gnome, and at restart I only had the command line.. I tried to reinstall budgie, still no luck. Don't know how to launch the environment from command line. Since it was no longer working, I wanted to come back to Gnome so tried reinstalling it. It worked, but when I'm starting I only getting my mouse appearing but that's it. Hopefully I can still run the command line with the sortcut.
Is there someone that can help me fix, my environment either getting back to the old Gnome or make it budgie work and start.

iiAku Use History and Rollback to undo your package changes, then you should be able to reboot and get back into GNOME at least.

Can one operate in Gnome, install Budgie in Gnome, then run Budgie in Gnome like Gnome was gone? And if, so, how? Workspaces?

If I could be running MATE or Plasma right now, for kicks, from my Budgie install, not an .iso and not from an install, it would be interesting For me personally it would joyously disrupt regular scheduled programming, to mash metaphors.. Didn't know this was do-able but I don't know a lot of things.

If all you are getting is the black screen with a command line then sudo eopkg up to be sure. There are some follow up commands people have but if I get myself in trouble I start with that one.

You can have multiple desktop environments installed and choose which one to start on the login screen, though it is not recommended. Nothing to do with Workspaces.

The eopkg up thing has been done.
I'm currently doing a git history - t to a period when everything was working. The process timed out and restarted in between but did not help, still getting my right mouse cursor but black screen and no login at all.

EbonJaeger Thank you. Had no idea Solus (or any os) could split its login screen options depending on the de you selected (and installed on the same OS; kernel not counting). My mind always associates that behavior with cross-platform logins. Again, I value the education.
Sorry to @iiAku for not getting it right away. Always thought different DE, different install. Interesting to know that cross 'flavouring'(?) was a thing. Also to @iiAku , install budgie .iso to a stick and play around. I did that w/gnome and mate before embracing budgie. Uncomplicated that way. Although it would not break the heart of Team Solus if you loved them all🙂

brent Mixing DEs isn't advised, it can get messy, but managed (by the user) well it can work.
