find current highest cpu core freq (conky/cli)

i want conky (or cli command or script) to show current highest cpu core frequency. for example i might have 7 cores currently at 2ghz but core 8 is @ 4ghz - here i want 4ghz as the output, a second later maybe core 3 is the highest one with say 3.7 ghz, while the others are at 3 ghz - here i want 3.7 ghz as the output

as far as i can tell conky cant do this natively, and im not capable of writing a command or script to do this myself. yes i have duckduckgo'ed but not much luck

any help appreciated 🙂

(please note I am barely conky cognizant, so this may be impossible), but you could try standard programming logic. Note syntax given is PERL or C, but you should get the gist.
$highest=$current_cpu0;
if $highest > $current_cpu1 then $highest=$current_cpu1;
(continue through cores same..clunky but probably doable.)

i think i found a better way
grep 'cpu MHz' /proc/cpuinfo | sort -r | awk 'NR==1{print $4/1000}'| cut -c 1-4
seems to work
should it be 1000 or 1024 though to convert from mhz to ghz?

It depends, if it's real binary implementation then 1024, otherwise if base 10, 1000. I suspect 1024, but maybe the programmer was insane.

MHz to GHz is simply 3 orders of magnitude difference (10³), not a binary 1024. Hence 4.1 GHz is equal to 4100 Hz. It's simply metric system, really. The binary portion comes into play with things like bits (Mbits vs. Gbits, etc.).

I never knew that (probably) and just assumed like almost everything else, it ran with the binary system.
