Good evening,
I have a use of my computer quite classic, internet especially, no games sometimes Virtualbox and it happens that my laptop freezes especially on the forums! a few times I see an overlay of all open tabs and nothing happens.I was wondering if the installation of the drivers corresponding to my card would be wise for my use.Sachant my PB ten years old and I think he has to get out of RAM which can also create this bug.
Thank you for your opinions.

maskarin You can always uninstall the driver if it's no better or causes issues. I'd suggest giving it a try.

    Hello
Thank you for your answer which confirms my idea to try the pilot and if nothing else happens I uninstall it.
    I'm trying that right now

What DE you use...budgie, gnome, mate? Mate is suitable for older hardware. If you are not using it maybe you should try and see the results.

I use Budgie,I just installed the driver, the first comment the fan triggers much less frequently than usual so I think the card heats less and no bug at the moment or block. See if it continues to go well in the day.

You can try to enable the hardware acceleration in firefox to see if it solves your freezes while browsing the web.
By default it is still disabled, initially it was because it was known to cause issues with the nouveau (open source driver for nvidia gpu), but last time I tested it was working fine (but obiously causing issues for some Plasma users).

And if your laptop is optimus (nvidia+intel GPU), you can switch to the intel one and give a try.

In all cases, the nvidia driver is much better than the reversed engineered open source nouveau driver, the only drawbacks of the nvidia one is that it consumes more energy (meaning computer warmer and shorter battery life) and it's closed source.

    Hello Kyrios
Thank you for this very informative answer! Regarding the browser I use Vivaldi which suits me well especially with all its mouse shortcuts. Actually, I just made several attempts to restart and I also go to the sites that were blocking me everything there with the driver nvidia it does not happen anymore nothing is working normally. I'm waiting for the day to go smoothly to put a resolution and I'll let you know.
Thanks again for your answers and opinions that helped me a lot.

I would add that before the connection to the forum Solus also blocked my computer and now it's been three times that I reconnect the fan does not trigger and no blocking or frizze.

By cons I do not remember how to put the solved ๐Ÿ˜…
A question comes to me when changes kernel should it do manipulations where everything is done automatically?

maskarin As we build the drivers when we update the kernel (we don't support DKMS, so the user doesn't have to rebuild drivers or have a long boot time the first time they use a new kernel), no manual work is required by the user. All you have to do is update (and typically reboot if there is a kernel or NVIDIA driver update).

maskarin You can't add the Solved tag, but we do it for you ๐Ÿ™‚
When you update your system, make sure to check all the boxes in the Software Center or to do sudo eopkg up in a terminal and you'll be fine. The driver will be updated with the kernel.

Ok Thanks for the resolved!, I practice updates every week through the terminal with a: sudo eopkg ur followed by a sudo eopkg up so everything will be fine

maskarin You actually don't need to do sudo eopkg ur, updating the repo index will happen automatically when you do sudo eopkg up ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok thanks I do only sudo eopkg up on the futur ๐Ÿ˜€

        Hello,
I come back on the subject to give you a little feedback. For the drivers everything is fine my laptop no longer hangs and slowed much less, about the last update of Saturday, everything went very well the kernel is upgraded without any manipulation on my part and upgrades of Nvidia drivers have always followed without doing anything.Concerning the souรงi who motivated this post the solution was good to put the Nvidia drivers! and thanks to the developers who make it easy for us to get the job done.:
