What sets Xresources in Budgie?

When I run xrdb -query in Budgie, I get the following:

Xft.dpi:	192
Xft.antialias:	1
Xft.hinting:	1
Xft.hintstyle:	hintslight
Xft.rgba:	rgb
Xcursor.size:	48
Xcursor.theme:	breeze-cursor

This is consistent with my DPI settings under GNOME control center.

I'm just wondering where these settings are coming from... is it from a file, or a program setting it with xrdb directly? No dice in /etc/X11/xinit/.

I would like to apply the exact same settings when running i3wm instead of Budgie. Rather than just hardcode the above, I would like it to come from a single source, if at all possible.

its the breeze-cursor theme so X applications will know the system cursor (reaming config values)
to check your system
loginctl
get the session and add as arg in this below command
loginctl show-session <get SESSION value> -p Type

for i3wm i did some Rofi config setting in .Xresources other than that you can declare variables and use it in i3 config.
& urxvt config settings as well.

viyoriya I already have an Xresources file at ~/.Xresources which I load from my i3config, but I would like to know how Budgie is setting Xresources out-of-the-box so that I can add this to my i3config file (for example):

xrdb -merge /path/to/magic/budgie/Xresources

which would allow me to keep the DPI settings consistent between Budgie and i3wm.

tomocafe i dont have those entries in my Xresources file .
i guess some application may be added those entries..
system does merge while starting ... have a look at this code its merging to xrdb (user & system resources)

viyoriya It looks like the system Xresources merged by xinitrc is dead code, at least on my system.

sysresources=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources
# ...
xrdb -merge $sysresources

but

$ cat /etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources
cat: /etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources: No such file or directory

Apparently Gnome-settings-daemon changes Xft.dpi.

Makes sense why it's consistent with my GNOME control center settings. But unfortunately, it looks like these settings are applied directly through API, not via some file, so I can't piggy back from a file using i3wm. It looks like I could launch /usr/lib64/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-xsettings to get this working, though not sure if I should just add it to my ~/.Xresources directly and break the link between GNOME and i3 cleanly, sacrificing the consistency between them DPI-wise.

I supposed this would be taken care of if I used that hybrid "i3 + GNOME" .desktop file. When choosing that instead of plain i3wm, I do see the Xft.dpi being set, but it's set to 96 instead of 192 like on Budgie. Not sure why it's not consistent there, maybe I need to set some dconf option from i3? But anyway, not sure I even want to load all this GNOME stuff to begin with just for this.

tomocafe try login in i3+gnome (Its already installed 😀 ) and check. It consumes more memory.
all the files in this location

in i3 config

exec --no-startup-id /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-xsettings
exec_always --no-startup-id gnome-power-manager

if you have installed flashback then
exec --no-startup-id gnome-flashback

jus i tried this and i see the budgie panel

env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=budgie budgie-panel

maybe a helper vala code can solve the error

gsettings get x.dm.slick-greeter xft-dpi
gsettings set x.dm.slick-greeter xft-dpi 192

or in dconf-editor goto x.dm.slick-greeter
seems its only for greeter
