It's been a long time since I've read a thread as difficult as this--lots of between the lines and I am the mayor of simpleton to steal from Andy Partridge...
The above-referenced "left in the cold" thread was really not left in the cold at all. That OP wanted to forgo the dkms route and try the tree route. Even OP concluded this was difficult and this was a Debian-only deal.
His/her furnished link (https://docs.anbox.io/userguide/install_kernel_modules.html#install-kernel-modules) is the anbox instructions. Anbox disclaims: "At the moment we only have packages prepared for Ubuntu in a PPA on Launchpad. If you want to help to get the packages in your favorite distribution please come and talk to us or submit a PR with the distribution specific packaging."
In dev solus, task 4904 was closed (https://dev.getsol.us/T4904) in 2018. That was the Anbox package request maniphest.
Founder I. Doherty did comment in 2017, in that task thread, that "Anbox will never be supported as a snap, remember it's a classic snap, not confined. It actually relies on the host being Ubuntu.
We'd need to package up the kernel modules (i.e. -current style split) and Anbox ourselves."
Always liked his play on words🙂
The apt-get install is also the the way "cold" thread OP abandoned: installing the ubuntu dkms. Proven not to work.
Even Anbox says if you go outside of Ubuntu, contact us first, we will try to help.
In that case the DIY additional compiling falls squarely on the person going outside the repo to snap.
Really not the team's job as of now. Maybe down the road? If one makes a compelling request on dev page? But anbox pretty much said they would try to help anyone with any DE.
PS--also in the T4904 maniphest thread is a person who claimed they successfully installed and are running Anbox and left detailed terminal commands to make it so.
After parsing this 6-link monster for the last hour I feel I've earned a bachelors degree at least...but for sure a draught...
