I'll take this as a way to say hello to the community after days of lurking. This now ancient ThinkPad T420 was purchased solely as a toy to install Linux on it and dabble with it. First I intended to install Arch, since I used it back in circa 2009, but I quickly became frustrated with the WiFi just not working the way it should. Gone are the days when I had ample time to burn on problems like this. I searched the internet for other threads venting frustration about how everything is so complicated on Linux and was recommended to try out a distribution that was actually focused on being used on desktop computers. This is what led me to install Solus and I am grateful to have done so, since everything worked out of the box and I love the clean aesthetic of the Budgie DE. Thank you so far, Solus team!
