Is it possible to download WPS and install it on my Solus on "the old fashioned way". Via flatpack or snap it is not stable, or just disappeares.
I know that there are other programs (LO, Gnumeric etc.) but these are to "light" for my (huge) documents.

WPS
Good afternoon,
I am trying to install this tar ball : wps-office_10.1.0.6758_x86_64.tar.xz. I cannot find the "startup program". Could someone help me please?
Greetings, Evert
Or can someone tell me how to install this tarball?

It was very easy:
Dowload the tarball and then extract it to a specific folder. For example i use /home/<username>/.build/
.
Inside extracted folder you will find README.txt, with instructions.
Thanks for using our product.
Until now, all components is installed completely. You can run "WPS Office
Writer" by type ./wps, "WPS Office Presentation" by type ./wpp, "WPS
Office Spreadsheets" by type ./et.
So everything is already done, there is nothing to build.
Launch the terminal inside that folder and simply run ./wps
for Writer.
All what you have to do is to create menu entries. I suggest you to use menulibre
.
Chose the place you want to put the launcher. Naturally the recommended place is "Office", but you can create another one and name it as you want.
For the command box navigate into the build folder and for Writer chose wps
Like this in my situation:
/home/algent/.build/wps-office_10.1.0.6758_x86_64/wps
For Presentation make another launcher and chose wpp
, and for Spreadsheets choose et
.
Thanks guys. I will give it a try.
Greetings,
Evert.

Inside resource
folder there are the files needed for Menu entries, icons ecc, but you have to place them in right place in the system to make it work with those configurations.
EDIT: Also installed the version 2019, from a .rpm
package.
I am starting to like the .rpm
At this moment I am at work. Tomorrow is my day off and the first tomorrow thing will be working on all your suggestions and help. Thanks again : Evert .
Hey Algent,
How did you arrange that .rpm on Solus, because the 2019 version is lovely.
Greetings, Evert
Yes I can tell you what I did to make it work.
First download the .rpm file and move it into another folder for example wps-office-2019
.
With archive manager extract the content and there will be three folders: opt, usr and etc.
I usually mess up my system so I took the risk to do:
Right click to launch the terminal from the folder "wps-office-2019" and run:
sudo cp -r {opt,usr,etc} /
Thats all.
I recommend you to try it first in virtual box. Don't do experiments like me. :-p
You will see also an empty category "WPS Office" in the menu. It can be removed easily.
To remove all what you have done there are some more steps.
evert Yes, version 2019 is more beautiful than version 2016, but it has a problem when switching from light theme to dark theme. I am writing from phone, so I can't post pictures. This issue has been since first release of v.2019 maybe because it is still Beta version. I suggest you to use v.2016. Both versions are way more faster than snap and flatpak versions, and system folders are more accesible.
Well Algent,
I do not know how come, but WPS 2019 riuns PERFECTLY. Many thanks.
Greetings, Evert Sonneveld
Reminds me, it'd be neat to be able to have some sort of subfolder system if possible within the Budgie start menu.
@algent Gotta say you're really good at explaining this stuff in a simple manner and elaborating on things when asked. We need more people like you in this world w
No, I do not have a empty Category. Anyway, I am very delightfull everyting runs perfectly. Thanks again.
