Using wine on Solus isn't different than using it on other distributions. Just make sure to install the correct package (wine package is the 64bit version (with wine64 binary) while wine-32bit is the 32bit version (with wine binary).

Just use your favorite search engine to search for wine beginner guide or wine tutorial.

If you search the repository, you'll find useful apps to work with wine like winetricks or q4wine for example.

If you feel lost with wine, you may prefer playonlinux or lutris.

Definitely use PlayOnLinux or Lutris, it makes it infinitely easier to get the best configuration for your game or application without hours of research and tinkering.

Justin PlayOnLinux has outdated scripts. Lutris is a better fit if you want to mainly 'game' and if you use scripts. Only get PlayOnLinux if you just want a graphical frontend to wine.

dlalinsp Lutris does all the work for you, no scripting knowledge required. Open Lutris, pick game, click install.

Would this apply to using MS Office 10 on Solus? I've tried and can't get it to work.

mdiemer Lutris is for games only but PlayOnLinux does have a script for MS Office 10. I am not sure it works, though. You are free to try it, of course. However, I would recommend getting an office suite that supports Linux. If LibreOffice won't cut it for you, try OnlyOffice. https://www.onlyoffice.com/download-desktop.aspx

It's not for me, it's for my wife. She doesn't like Libre, so I put Free Office on. I'm hoping that will work out. However, if not I may need to use Wine and install MS Office 10. The other option is to use the Windows install for Office, keeping Windows offline. This is all about Windows 7 EOL. I am desperately trying to avoid "upgrading" her Windows to W10.

Thanks Justin. I'm hoping she likes Free Office, but I need a fallback option in case she doesn't.

mdiemer Freeoffice seems to be good. However, I always try to avoid software that complicates installation on Linux instead of supporting a universal distribution method like appimages or snaps. I wonder why they don't move on? 😕
