Printer HP Envy 6010 doesn't work

It prints, but (Document Scanner) wont scan.

sane-find-scanner gives me this:

pomon scanimage -L gives me this:

edit. Sorry, I'm a bit confused how to insert code to posts. I just managed (barely!) to get 3 backticks out of Finnish (Scandic) keyboard. I can't see graphic symbol or (forum-) icon for that "code-box", but I can see (forum-) icon for example "Inline code".

hp-plugin -i

and download the plugin… ?

totalmongobaer I just tried but q'd forquit. What is hp-plugin? Isn't it available at repo? Those version numbers looked familiar. I think I got whats called hplip.

edit. hp-uiscan tells me that no device connected. Which is BS from my POV: There is usb cable connected. Light is on. Printing is functional.

qk4-li3 You will need this plugin for the Scan Function.

type in terminal:

hp-plugin -i

Than: not q, you should type d ! For download and install the plugin, than enter and system Password in terminal and it will download and install the HP-Plugin. After this will the scanner work, hopefully 🙂

I use the Scan App simple-scan. For me its still the best scanner App. Just install it (if you want) from the solus repo.

totalmongobaer I just found out "simple-scan" is same software as "document scanner". Very confusing also.

qk4-li3 I mean did you succesfull installed the HP-Plugin for your Printer ?

This plugin is not in the repo, its a proprietary driver from HP for their scanners!

hp-plugin -i (enter) , type d -for the download and install process - enter password and thats it!

totalmongobaer While I appreciate your helpfulness and I think that your suggestion would probably work, I must say "thanks, but no thanks".

Let me explain:

I got my acute scanning jobs done with an old HP Photosmart(All-In-One). Teeth on one of the gearwheels are broken, so it can't print (move paper), but scanning worked immediately.

So I had the luxury of no need to hurry with the HP ENVY 6010.

I decided to go 92%-Richard-Stallman and research how I could avoid installing proprietary software hp-plugin.

I found out that, with that device (HP Envy 6010), there's no choice but to install the proprietary hp-pluginwhen scanning via USB.

The solution was to use Wi-Fi instead.

I installed sane-airscan from the Solus repository, and things started to work. I even managed to get into the HP Envy's Embedded Web Server (EWS) with my browser, to administrate the device settings.

Success. No proprietary blobs needed! All hail RMS!
