Where did the "logout" button go?

After the upgrade to Gnome 50 I can't find the logout button. Am I going blind or/and is it hidden somewhere?

That is a "feature" of Gnome 50. Hidden by default on purpose, lol. I believe you can run gsettings set org.gnome.shell always-show-log-out true

Need more research but I think we will add override for this, because this is dumb.

Gnome asked me to logout to some extensions updates could take effect, but it's a bit hard when the button isn't there 🙂

Yeah, funny enough, this "feature" is over a decade old, but the way they set it is if you have only one user and one session available, which when Gnome supported X11 and Wayland available, it would show. Now that X11 is gone, if you have just one user, you now also only have one session option. Looking it up it wasn't even received well back then as they Gnome devs said there was no reason for a user to need to logout, lol. Gnome doing Gnome things.

Sebastian Yep, we are doing it through our packaging instead. Other distros are doing the same to overcome this "feature".

CachyOS Gnome has a square button beside the power button but it doesn't give a warning; it just logs you out LOL
