Inquiry Into Gathering Logs

Hello! I've been encountering an issue recently wherein my display appears to crash during the execution of windowed tasks. I'm asking for methods of gathering journal logs to investigate the issue further as I'm still relatively new in using such tools. The issue in question is as follows: while using different programs (Spotify flatpak, mod organizer 2, KDE partition manager, and Dolphin) I experience a drop in display output while retaining audio. Upon restarting the system manually my display is restored. How might I gather prior session logs to further diagnose the issue? I'm suspecting it's to do with Kwin or KDE plasmashell after looking around on the forum and general googling. Perhaps my theming is crashing my Wayland sessions?

Kernel: 6.18.12-329.current
-Shell: bash 5.3.9
-DE: Plasma 6.5.5
-WM: kwin
-Theme: Breeze-Dark [GTK2], Breeze [GTK3], Graphite [GTK3]
-Icons: GreyStone - circle [GTK2/3]
-CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (16) @ 4.151GHz
-GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super
-32GB RAM
-Nvidia Drivers: nvidia-glx-driver-current w/ 32bit lib

Please let me know if any additional information is needed, as I am very appreciative of any help. Normally I would just reinstall, but since it's an intermittent issue I'd like to try and resolve it myself.

some guy at endeavour made this "log for every imaginable wayland kde linux situation", above.

But a log to measure gamma outputs or something like that? Or graphics driver performance? parts of it seem to be in there.
Good question.
Someone may know exactly what causes these performance drops.

brent That's a great tool to have, thank you. Hopefully it's an issue that'll resolve with updates, but if need be this could prove to be very useful. I'll give it a whirl and see! Have a lovely rest of your day as well, brent!

Plasma has been updated to 6.6.1 this week, hopefully your display issues will be solved. If they aren't, there's likely either a crash or the NVIDIA drivers are misbehaving.

Getting logs will show you which one, or if something else is going on. Also check the Crashed Process Viewer. If you have crashes related to kwin, plasmashell or something else that's system related, that will probably be linked to this bug. If you have crashes, let us know and we can help figure out what's happening.

TraceyC Thank you very much for the reply. It's been a nice having exposure to these tools and learn a bit more about properly reporting bugs. Such as enabling persistent storage in journalctl and examining said log files. Fortunately, I haven't experienced the issue since the last sync. But I will be sure to report any further issues, and thank you once again TraceyC. Have a lovely weekend as well!
