According to the lovely internets...by checking speed only. Speed is fine.
Hardware health? How to check?
I've suffered with this for 4-5 days and intensively this afternoon.
SIMPLE PROBLEM IS: many pages don't load. At all. They time out.
Some pages, not all.
Sometimes reload page after 15 minutes helps. Much of the time, no.
All three browsers.
Both OS's (Endeavour included), so 6 browsers.
Especially pages I need.
This logically means it was a recent update, both distros, and I can mathematically eliminate extensions since it's cross-distro, different extensions.
Or, it means hardware.
Modem is fine, it's reset. Everything unplugged at various times. All gremlins chased out.
CenturyLink speed tests (signed in) show indeed, I am getting what I am paying for for upload/download speeds. If that page loads.
Other non-ISP websites (IF THEY LOAD AT ALL) show the same.
Again, the only problem across 6 browsers and 2 distros is many pages don't load at all.
CONCLUSIONS:
*Because this is wildly intermittent, the ISP makes the most sense. But speed and upload tests negate this hypothesis--ELIMINATED
*Both firewalls (UFW and FD respectively) are different and neither have had recent updates. --ELIMINATED
*Software updates. Both distros updated regularly. same stuff? shader-related? who knows? Solus does behave better than Endeavour by a stretch but still pages don't load--ELIMINATED(?)
*Modem--partner and I are both ETH0'd into the modem. She has no problems. Wireless not a factor since we aren't using it. She has her own ETH cord and so do I. Bad cord? -NOT QUITE ELIMINATED
*NIC CARD? To me walks like a duck, talks like a duck, smells like a duck whatever. Degraded Inconsistent Performance seems to me failing hardware. This hypothesis fits with failing memory, fits with HDD, fits with SSD, fits with mobo...fits with NICS? Boosting hypothesis: 2013 M93 Thinkcentre--not state of the art but a workhorse.
LAST QUESTIONS:
What are the flaws in my logic/reasoning? I accept there has to be some.
There are no SMART tests for failing NICs cards..so how do I gauge its heath?
Thank you.
