Week 5, 2026 Updates

Heya folks! It's sync day, and that means it's time for the weekly Solus roundup!

Our LLVM stack has been updated to v20.1.8. The release notes for LLVM 20.1 can be found here.

Our Steam package no longer depends on Linux Steam Integration. LSI has been turned off by default since 2023 as the default Steam runtime has improved over time. The main Steam binary is now the upstream Steam executable instead of the LSI wrapper.

Wine has been updated to 11.0, hopefully fixing the recent issues with Wine following other stack changes. Notably, the 32bit version has been rolled into the main package. The release notes for this version can be read here. As a part of this, PlayOnLinux has been deprecated. Its last release was in 2020, and required Python 2, which is no longer available on Solus. Notably, PlayOnLinux has been completely nonfunctional since Solus 4.8! Who knew?

Mattermost desktop has been added to the Solus repository. It is an open-source, self-hostable alternative to Slack and Microsoft Teams. This is the desktop application used to connect to a server.

Security updates

As usual, there are a few security updates this week. Make sure to install your updates for the latest vulnerability fixes.

inetutils was updated to 2.7-16 (@joebonrichie). Includes security fixes for CVE-2026-24061.
mupdf was updated to 1.27.0-12 (@Jaredy899). Includes security fixes for CVE-2024-46657, CVE-2021-3407, CVE-2021-37220, CVE-2023-51104, CVE-2023-31794, CVE-2025-46206, CVE-2021-4216, CVE-2023-51105, CVE-2023-51103.
openssl was updated to 3.3.6-56 (@davidjharder). Includes security fixes for CVE-2026-22796, CVE-2025-69419, CVE-2025-69420, CVE-2025-15467, CVE-2025-68160, CVE-2025-66199, CVE-2025-15468, CVE-2025-69421, CVE-2026-22795, CVE-2025-69418.
python-tornado was updated to 6.5.4-18 (@davidjharder). Includes security fixes for CVE-2025-67724, CVE-2025-67726, CVE-2025-67725.
python-urllib3 was updated to 2.6.3-22 (@davidjharder). Includes security fixes for GHSA-38jv-5279-wg99.
qt6-webengine was updated to 6.10.1-54 (@HarveyDevel). Includes security fixes for CVE-2026-1220.

Installed Solus today. Went great. Upgraded after I installed to catch up since the release of 4.8. Went great. Just did the last sync. Went great. Awesome start to this OS.

Is user not being in Sudo file standard for Solus? Should I put my user in sudo? Thanks!

No after updating you should reboot.

We have moved from the sudo group to wheel which is more commonly used on distros. After reboot sudo command will work properly.

Harvey Cool, sudo working now. Looking forward to using this OS after running Arch. Needed something a bit more mellow and even.

It was made so the installation of linux-steam-integration is no longer mandatory when steam is installed, it was not deprecated so it will remain installed on your system. If you wish to uninstall it, go ahead.

comradegodzilla You will love it here then. I was using Fedora (business) and Arch at home prior. Now both are Solus. Community is better as well, in my humble opinion. 😉

UPDATE: Dolphin Emulator not loading anymore. Got this message in the terminal:

dolphin-emu: error while loading shared libraries: libLLVM.so.19.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I figured it has to do with the llvm update. Just wanted to bring awareness to it.

dolphin-emu is fixed locally on my system but it is going to take awhile before I can cherry-pick it; I am in the middle of a Qt6 update and required rebuilds which is 191 packages and a dolphin-emu rebuild is one of them. To not get messy I'm going to wait until its finished before cherry-picking a fix which is probably 8+ hours from now.

Everything went smooth on my end. Also thank you @Original-Syn for adding the ability to add custom updates. solseek up -e updated eopkg, flatpak, and my Homebrew packages all in one command.

Also thanks to the team getting Wine working. Still have a few older Windows apps I need for work. All good to go again on that front.

Now about that kern... I kid, I kid. 😉

But they installed LSI Steam, what's that for? When I click on it, I get an error message.

Pots LSI (Linux Steam Integration) is a Solus project. It force Steam to use system library instead of Steam runtime. Our Steam package used to be bundled with LSI. So, when you launch Steam in Solus, in truth you were lanuching LSI Steam.

LSI has not seen any maintainance for a few years now and Steam runtime has gotten better. Proton (and any Wine derivatives) target Steam runtime now, so forcing Steam to use to system library can cause more problem than its benefit.

We have been disabling the use of system library by LSI since 2023, but it is still installed by default and you cannot uninstall LSI without also uninstalling Steam.

Now (after this week update), Steam and LSI are unbundled. You can safely remove linux-steam-integration without removing steam. You can still use LSI by launching "LSI Steam" (lsi-steam) if you choose to do so.
