Context: Some months ago, my mother, refusing to use Windows 11 with everything we know about it, asked me help to install her Linux. Initially, knowing she had a Nvidia GPU, I wanted to install her something deemed stable. With everything I heard about it, I chose LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition). But it appears it was a bad choice, since the first update she made gave her a black screen with a curious way to fix it. She asked me what I was using, and why I told her Solus Plasma and that everything went perfect even with my Nvidia RTX 3080, she asked me to install her that.
Problem: So know, she is using Solus Plasma as well, and seems quite satisfied with it. However, we met 2 main problems:
The first was with Wine not launching, but that's not the subject here.
The second is with her printer, a Canon Pixma MG6350.
At first, the printer worked out of the box to print a pdf opened in Brave. BUT, Libreoffice, OnlyOffice or even Gwenview couldn't print anything. So we checked together, and first, following the steps here: https://help.getsol.us/docs/user/hardware/peripherals/printers-and-scanners/ , I typed: 'sudo eopkg install canon-ufriilt-common'. But the package was already installed by default. So we searched for another solution, and managed to change the driver used in the "system settings - Printers - Canon MG6300 series - Select manufacturer / brand". We chose "Canon MG6300 series - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.3.4".
New result: At first, it didn't work, then we rebooted the system, and suddenly, it worked... BUT, not completly: On OnlyOffice, it doesn't work at all, and on LibreOffice and other softwares, it prints ONLY in black and white. I checked in the "system settings - Printer" and she was in "greyscale", so we changed for "RGB colors", but it didn't change anything.
Note: Scanner works perfectly, using NAPS2.
What is weird, is that I also use a Canon Pixma MG (just 3600 instead of 6350) and everything worked perfectly out of the box for me. I plugged the printer, I printed, and I can print in colors all I want... everything's perfect.
On another note, her system is often in English, while we're French, which is curious. It's as if her Solus didn't install completely, as if something is not right, compared to my own installation. But I may be wrong?
Do someone have an idea on how to fix the issue? I'm completely lost there and can't help my mother further.
