Upgraded computer and need to get stuff off old hard drive

Hello all. I just upgrade my computer, the whole thing so new M2 drive as well. I'm trying to get some stuff off of my old SSD but it's not letting me copy a bunch of files, saying permission denied. I know I need to take ownership of the drive but I'm not sure how to do that. How would I go about that?

In cases like this (I never had one fwiw) I would just do all my 'get stuff off old drive' with a live .iso. Never been pestered for permissions or had permission issues in a live environment.. 2 cents. But I really like Sebastian's course of muscling it in as well. Where there's a will there's a way

What I do in such a scenario I use this Norton commander like TUI file manager called mc
sudo eopkg it mc
then run sudo mc in terminal.
Looks ugly, does the job.
It like split view left and right with source and target directory.
You Switch between both with tab.
Go on the right side to the target directory and on the left side to the files you wanna move.
Navigation via keyboard arrow keys.
If I remember right F5 to copy, F6 or 7 to move, F8 to delete.
After that you need to adjust permissions for those files that your normal user has access to them.

I kinda forgot about this and moved on, but remembered it just now. Turns out, it wasn't disallowing me from copying from my old hard-drive. Apparently, Lutris, when installing a program had set permissions up in a way where I couldn't copy things over the destination. I was trying to copy my old FL Studio install over from my old HDD to my new M2 drive and ran into that issue. Turns out, it's all good and everything is working fine.
