I would like to learn LibreOffice Base in order to get away from Access. I have installed Base and tried to create a database. Unfortunately Base requires JRE. I have consulted all the resources I can find on the Solus site but every reference for installing Java refers to the time before we moved to Discover. Discover doesn't appear to have a simple entry for jre or jdk. Can somebody point me in the right direction please?

Install openjdk-21 from terminal (it does not appear in Discover but is in the repo, terminal is the best option for the time being)
- use: sudo eopkg it openjdk-21

Then, because:
Solus does not add Java to the PATH environment variable by default.
tldr: the user can install multiple java versions and it cant break your system, Solus gives the user the option to select one keeping the others if the user want it to.

So it needs to be done by us:
- From terminal or using a text editor add to the file /home/myusername/.bashrc the following:
  export PATH=/usr/lib64/openjdk-21/bin:$PATH
  - using terminal: echo "export PATH=/usr/lib64/openjdk-21/bin:$PATH" >> ~/.bashrc
  - using a text editor: copy and paste: export PATH=/usr/lib64/openjdk-21/bin:$PATH to the file .bashrc lotated in your home directory

At this point your application is usable.

Many thanks for the quick reply Nolan. Excellent instructions, worked a treat. I had seen the Help Centre documentation but had the impression we should use Discover now rather than eopkg - I now know different.

[So refreshing to be given an answer to a problem that works - in the (spit) Windows world every solution you find to a problem, e.g., recovering a system when Windows overwrites the boot sector, fails.]
