Heya folks! Today marks the first sync of 2026. The last year was a momentous one for Solus. We unveiled a new website, removed Python 2, completed the Usr-Merge epoch, and more. It is time now for us to look ahead to what we'll accomplish in the new year. Thank you to everyone for sticking with us, and for your continued contributions and support. Now, for the sync notes.
The QEMU package has been updated to 10.2.0. We've also enabled all architectures, and the package has been split out into subpackages.
qemu contains the common utilities and emulation for x86 and x86-64.
qemu-arm contains ARM/ARM64 emulation.
qemu-loong contains LoongArch emulation.
qemu-mips contains MIPS based emulation.
qemu-ppc contains PowerPC emulation.
qemu-riscv contains RISC V emulation.
qemu-misc contains emulation for all other (mostly niche) architectures.
The qemu package depends on qemu-arm and qemu-mips for a smooth transition. Here are all the release notes:
A new Linux console provider has been added to the repository. kmscon is a simple terminal emulator based on linux kernel mode setting (KMS). It is an attempt to replace the in-kernel VT implementation with a userspace console. Features include scrollback, mouse support, CJK font support, hwaccel, and a bunch of other modern features if one finds themselves forced to use a TTY. In time, it may become the default console provider on Solus, but there are a couple of issues to work out first.
proton-vpn-cli was also added to the repository over the holidays. It provides a CLI interface for ProtonVPN, replacing the previously-deprecated protonvpn-cli.
Lastly, Feishin is now in the repository. This is a modern self-hosted music player. Check it out!
Security updates
We have several security updates this week, including one for eopkg which addresses two vulnerabilities. Neither issue could be triggered by using packages in the official Solus repositories.
General updates
The full list of updated packages can be found here.
For the list of currently known issues, see the dedicated thread for it. If you begin experiencing a bug, please look for an issue on our issue tracker, and open a new one if one does not exist.
That’s all for this week, folks! We'll be here same time, same place next week for another roundup of the news!
