Is there a minimal ISO for installing Hyprland

Hi folks,

i used Solus some years ago and in fact it was my second Distro(Budgie) at the time and i was quite happy for around a year.
I am a fedora user now for some years and i use hyprland. Hyprland now has become quite a hassle because its only supported by some third party COPR repos, and not very consistant aswell.
So here i am, wanna join the club again. My Question:

As there is no minimal ISO i could use(or is there any on the build server?!?), my way to install would be taking the GNOME ISO and install hyprland and afterwards remove the none need GNOME packages.
Is there a "meta" package for gnome i can remove, that links all relevant GNOME packages(void does this for example) or if not, what are the relevant packages to remove. Gnome-shell i guess, but what else?

Same question but for Niri 🙂 I found it more better and fluid that Hyprland.

MarkoB I installed from the Budgie ISO, and now run Niri. I've left Budgie installed as a fallback option, but have yet to need to revert to it. I have installed some alternative apps to those that ship with Budgie, but overall I'm very satisified with the combination.

Hi @rorian I think you should be fine, I'm using Hyprland but left Gnome as my wife or kids are using my PC and they need DE. But some time ago I was trying it in VM and when you use Gnome as default and remove gdm, gnome-shell there may be some issues. I just installed sddm on top of it and could log in with hyprland without Gnome but left some apps like gedit etc. with I use. Best would be try this in VM and if all will be fine for you go with bare metal install.

I'm using I3WM on a Budgie installation. I keep Budgie and didn't uninstall anything. I3 works fine, and I still can log in Budgie, even if I don't use it no more. So I have a lot of packages that I don't need, but I'm OK with that.
When the 4.8 ISO was released, I consider to reinstall Solus for a clean I3WM setup, but I abandoned this idea when I realized there is no minimal installation for Solus. It could be a feature very useful for this kind of niche user : people who want to run Solus as server, or use one of the windows manager that are in the repo.
Since Solus intend to be user-friendly and working out-of-the-box I understand the team don't want to waste time and resources for something which would satisfy only few users.
If you don't need space on your disk, keeping one of the main desktop is OK, I think

I would also advice against removing the DE of the base system. Disk space doesn't matter nowadays, and it's always nice to have a fallback. I have GNOME, Budgie and niri installed.
Moreover, uninstalling the pre-shipped DE is not a supported use case.
Epoch jump is done, but for an example see this issue:

In a future scenario devs might ship a similar script that kind of relies on defaults.

Yeah but thats the point, i know Hyprland is rock solid and works fine for me. I don't need a backup solution, and my dotfiles are synced to my NAS server anyways. I don't care if my machine fails tomorrow.

I don't wanna update Budgie or GNOME leftovers the system and me got no use for. And to be honest having 2 DE's at the same time installed often was a failure point for many things to break. Yeah its possible and surely can work fine, but i am not a fan.

Sebastian For Budgie, dry running sudo eopkg install -c desktop.budgie
gives me these packages:

Thx but as said, i wanted to take GNOME as base, because it shares some apps usefull to me, i don't need to remove, i just want the core desktop removed i guess. Yeah and i don't mind some tinkering. I guess i just dive in when i am ready and hope for the best ^^
