Delayed display problem

FIXED, sort of...

I searched through the posts but couldn't find an answer that worked.

Symptoms:
Boot-up display time took about 5 minutes
After wake-up, the display would take about 5 minutes before returning

Hardware: (generic stuff)
AM4 motherboard
AMD Ryzen 5
An older AMD Radeon using the kernel drivers
A 2K monitor

I found the solution for my problem on a different forum:
uninstall the iio-sensor-proxy package !

at the command line:
$ eopkg remove iio-sensor-proxy

I uninstalled it and the delay has vanished. I hope this can help others who might be having the same problem.

I love a quick internet fix....after trying 25 other failed fixes 🙂
Edit your title to put FIXED or HOW TO and maybe the category to Tutorial or Solved dunno. and mention this is a laptop that has gone to sleep and nudged awake? do I have that right?

I've been working on this problem for about a week. AI advice was useless, and most forum posts discussed problems that seemed not similar enough.

I don't have a laptop, I have a desktop computer with no need for screen orientation info, brightness adjustments according to ambient lighting conditions, or using that screen orientation info for compass directions on map apps. The boot-up time until I get a display has reduced from 5 minutes (that's an accurate timing!) to about a minute and a half. That's still too long, but it's something I can live with. Waking up from sleep is sporadic. It works, but only the first few times. So I'll need to disable sleep once more. Sigh.

This seems to be a Wayland issue. On X11 there's no problem.

I wonder if some of the people posting here complaining of no display aren't waiting long enough. Five minutes is an eternity when you're staring at a black screen.
