Open nvidia kernel module - support for RTX 4000 and RTX 5000 GPU

hi, currently solus only has support for the full proprietary driver or the full mesa noveau stack. The past year or so, nvidia has introduced the open kernel modules for nvidia and newer graphics cards ONLY support these modules if you want to use the nvidia features. RTX 4000 cards can use either the propietary or the open modules but the RTX 5000 cards are HARD stuck on the open modules. My question is can we get support for the open modules on solus please? thanks in advance.

There is an ongoing work on that. It has been stalled because the person is busy and nobody on the team has those cards. So, testing is kinda hard.

i would be willing to help, how much technical knowledge do i need of linux? and do i need to go through some interview process to get on the team or?

We are not looking for a new staff member at the moment but we always welcome people with whatever they can help with. If you want to help specifically this issue, then you have to have a good understanding of kernel, graphic drivers and packaging for Solus. I don't really understand the first two subject myself but you can read about packaging for Solus here. You can base your work from the PR I mentioned previously or start from scratch. Either way, have fun!
