Distro Hopping: CachyOS

Anyone tried CachyOS? Must say I was impressed with the installer with choice of boot system (Grub/SystemD/etc) and the amount of possible DE you could choose. I am running it as a VM with KDE and its pretty slick. The software installation program takes a bit of getting used to its pretty basic unlike Gnome-Software or Discover. Worth a look.

I've already tried it, but the Arch world often requires quite a bit of configuration after installing a package.

Otherwise, it's a good distribution for learning.

not sure they are their anymore was when they first started out.

Dont know why people do that and ruin a otherwise good thing.

What kind of views? Do you have a link or a screenshot?

We have it installed on our HTPC here (with Plasma), which used to run Solus Budgie. (My partner wanted to use something he could use with puppet something something). We've noticed there is polish in Solus Budgie and Plasma that is missing in CachyOS like

For some reason, with CachyOS, the cursor is always in the middle of the screen when we turn the TV on. I haven't noticed this on any other Plasma install on other displays.
For a few months, sometimes, when the TV is turned back on, the system will pick a resolution the TV can't display. We have to re-seat the HDMI cable to get it to re-negotiate. Mind, this could be a Plasma thing vs. Budgie thing that's not specific to CachyOS.

CachyOS feels like EndeavourOS that was trending a couple years ago.

not to get too offtopic. have not met a budgie I liked as much as solus. not even Fedora. Not Endeavor's either. Vanilla Arch? Interesting. Rock on.

brent On Arch Budgie I just use internal Budgie dark theme, it's ok. I remember I had to manually install bibata-cursors as they are not in Arch repo for some reason and I refuse to use AUR.

I had no such reservations 🙂.

It's just just flatpaks with an Arch user maintaining them instead of the flatpak folk so they remain arch packages.

PRO TIP: AUR is best scanner and printer repository I have ever seen. That is what community repos should be about.
Half the other stuff (epsonscan2, ungoogled etc etc) did not work as good as a flatpak.You aren't missing much except a huge variety of peripheral tools,
Now I've really disgressed.

Well Solus Plasma is my goto OS but as backup CachyOS works well in dual boot and I have successfully got it playing nice with secure boot after following the guide which feels like an achievement.

Forum is helpful when it came to setting up some of the more obscure apps like JamesDSP. 😃

Well found my first bug in CachyOS. RDP doesn't work with the current Nvidia (580-105) drivers with reminna or krdc. Just get a blank screen when dialing into my other Solus machine with 570 driver. Downgrade the driver on Cachy and it works but cant get a resolution apart from 1024x768 on main monitor. Maybe I didn't downgrade properly.
