and with btop I see that is a kwin_x11 --replace --> something is "broken", on the other hand these bugs seem to have been resolved: #6362 #5837 (if it's not a "pleasant" collateral effect)

FAb7D I double-checked that the Nvidia drivers are there and work normally, but KDE consumes too many CPU and GPU resources, especially with videos, even low-definition YouTube videos.
I haven't tried this because I don't know what it is and because unsupported: nvidia-vaapi-driver - A VA-API implemention using NVIDIA's NVDEC as the backend (UNSUPPORTED)

That's something being caused by the kwin code that needs to be reported to KDE via their bug tracker https://bugs.kde.org. There's nothing I'm aware of in the way we package things that would cause this.

WhiteWolf What desktop are you using? Budgie and Gnome have their own screenshooting tool now. gnome-screenshoot is unmantained upstream and possibly broken at this point.

I think a few things went wrong with the KDE update.
Gparted is not running anymore

can't open display.

Steam is not running anymore

Can't start x.
Check your DISPLAY environment variable and make sure that you have enabled X.
If you are running remotely, make sure that you have a remote connection which will allow an X connection.

MikeK61 I think a few things went wrong with the KDE update.

I'm not able to reproduce those problems. Both gparted and Steam start without issue for me on Plasma Wayland. Can you please start a new support topic so we can do troubleshooting? Thanks.

Reporting here a list of issues I have noticed during and after this upgrade:

During update:
Error messages indicating there's not enough space for kernel. Kernel upgrade succeeded after resizing EFI partition from 260 MB to the recommended 1GB. Also, I vaguely remember another error which was something about missing "var/something/something.xml"... was it systemd-something(?)... nah.. I can't remember.

After upgrade:

Unable to boot normally: There was cryptic error message during boot and machine did not start, until I went to BIOS/EFI (I don't know what is it called, but traditionally "BIOS- settings") and moved boot order to the entry where it said Linux-something instead of Solus-something. Then the behaviour changed like it is described in the next item in this list.

Budgie panel missing applets that previously were there: clock, raven trigger, volume indicator, power indicator, network indicator. Adding them again in the panel, seems like only part of them survives reboot.
Vivaldi browser informing me something about some security keys(?) and offering me to continue using Vivaldi with some Vivaldi features disabled.EDIT: NOT using auto-login or such.

qk4-li3 It's a good idea to check every now and then if you need to delete some kernels at boot to make room. The three commands to use (with attention) to do this are:

sudo clr-boot-manager list-kernels
sudo clr-bootmanager remove-kernel ...
sudo clt-boot-manager update
You can find it well explained in the help center

Update resulted in keyring issues (Vivaldi, Element, ...), on two systems (both Budgie). Don't use autologin or similar.
Great thanks palto42 for help.
However, feels strange and a bit uneasy, don't remember having to bother after updates so far since the Solus "restart".

FYI - I've reported an issue with lag on the DE after week 44 sync.
Turned out that the culprit is xorg-server package v 21.1.19. Downgrading back to xorg-server-21.1.18-108-1 is resolving the issue.

Now I've applied week 45 updates which included xorg-server v 21.1.20... and same issue with the lag.
I've just found this is NOT Solus specific issue and it's actively discussed on the xserver bug tracker:

Looks like mostly people with hybrid GPUs and multiple monitors are being affected.

Hi folks,
just a quick question to geht back on track. I never do my is updates on the day they are published to avoid any problems if there are any unwanted/unforced errors on the dev side. Lucky me this time ...

So I still need to install last weeks update ...

As I'm not checking the forum every day I don't know if the problem with budgie desktop is sorted out and it's save to do last weeks update or should I wait a little longer?

The update went fine and smooth, the only "problem" i encountered was my file manager feels now somehow laggy which is strange considering it was really snappy before and the system monitor is confirming this impression :

I mean, nautilus weren't using that much RAM before, right ?

My Nautilus uses around 70 MB freshly after launch, but jumps to half a gig if I open a directory with plenty of media files. I assume that's because of the need to load and display thumbnails and Nautilus does that for every file, whether it is within the manager's viewport or not. So it looks like it isn't really great with memory efficiency (a recurring theme with GNOME apps), but also highly dependent on what kid of directory you're browsing.

Alternatively you may have some extensions installed that contribute to the issue?

I try to keep my Gnome pretty minimalistic so i doubt it is the cause of the problem. I mean the problem is not that bad but hearing the fan of my laptop roaring just because i opened my file manager especially on this kind of config is amusing i must say.
