Hello all! Recently, the artwork repo got overhauled. There is new requirements in place. Images that doesn't meet the new requirements were removed and a few new images has been added. So, we are open for submissions/suggestions!
Why it got overhauled?
First of all, screen resolution has multiplied over the years and many of our images are not fit for those big resolution monitor. Second, many of the images don't have a clear licensing which make us hesitate to continue redistributing it. Third, we want people to submit image/artwork to Solus has clear guidelines that they can follow.
How do I submit an image?
If anyone interested in submiting images for Solus, file an issue or make a PR on artwork repo. We will consider the suggestion. Make sure the image meet all the requirements before submitting it. For clarity, here are the requirements:
- Must be licensed under Public Domain, CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA. Specify which license the artwork is under.
- Image must be 3840x2160 or higher.
- If you are not the original author, you must provide the source: URL to the webpage hosting the image, direct download (if possible) to the image, name of author.
- Only Solus branding assets (name, trademark, or logo) are allowed to be used in the artwork.
- Images should not be too busy and filled with too many shapes and colors. A similar tone throughout is a good rule of thumb.
- No illustrations some may consider inappropriate, offensive, hateful, tortuous, defamatory, slanderous or libellous.
- No sexually explicit or provocative images.
- No images of weapons or violence.
- No alcohol, tobacco, or drug use imagery.
- No designs which promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against groups or individuals; or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
- No religious, political, or nationalist imagery.
- No AI-generated artwork.
Image that meets those requirements does not mean it will included in the repo. Only considered. If a submission does not meet those criteria, it will closed and rejected immediately.
How will Solus choose what to accept?
The images included in the repo will be based on the whims of the Staff members. Yes, I am serious.
Not a Contest
To be clear, this is not a contest. There is no competition or prizes involved. In my opinion, If we ever do an artwork/background contest, I think it should be only for original work.
