belkin usb port freezes Nemo

$2 USD, thrift store

one can never have enough auxiliary usb ports I was thinking, for a decade plus desktop Lenovo.
It has a power supply plugged into an AC outlet.
It also has a usb cord that I plug into the both the 3.0 and 2.0. both wiggy.

What's the problem? When I plug it in Nemo freezes.

when that 62 GB and that 1TB are plugged into it Nemo just stops. When it doesn't freeze it flashes. It does not work. can't access anything. There might be this rare moment when it settles then goes bonkers---a tiny window--where I can click the 1TB and 62B and they open effortlessly.

Like I say. One out of 25 attempts to open those drives works. Nemo mostly paralyzed by the Belkin port.

My only working theory is 1) needs drivers? I have no other theory. EDIT: the 1TB too taxing?

$2 in the toilet not dramatic, but why do you think this USB bank is barely usable?

brent In the past I have had USB hubs that brought everything to a crawl. This could be due to damaged hardware rather than a driver issue. Have you tried a different OS? I like to try several different live boot OSs for things like this before the bin is considered. Windows and Mint or Ubuntu maybe.
To be fair the USB port has a tough time during it's life dealing with the kind of detritus that gets pulled into the socket every time we fish a memory stick out of our pocket or off a dusty shelf. The threat of coffee spills is no minor consideration either.
I hope you find a solution.
Edit: Looking at the picture again I think I used to have one of these things myself a long while ago. It was never very fast or reliable and I have a feeling that it only supported first generation USB devices meaning that later devices would be heavily throttled when accessed through it. Some USB devices did not play well with backwards compatibility and just did not work. See if you can find a build date for a clue as to how old your tech is.

brent If I understand right its a F5U021 should be switch on side for (self / buss powered)
Switch to buss power (do not plug in wall wart) and see if that helps.
Think mostly its a usb 1.1 unit and those are such big disks if you have couple small size ones they shoukd work
good on usb 1.1 to kinda tell you whats happening
Are those thumb drives or external ssd drives.

My point being that for those size disks and being usb1.1 its prob dog slow for nemo.
And who knows for compatability

yeah maybe should try it with the 1TB unplugged 🙂 --haven't got that far.

this ^ plus age plus maybe too old for even the my 2013 Lenovo or sheerly made for WIN (if that's possible for hardware)

next experiment before trash then--bus only. Unsure if the 2013 thinkcentre (2.0's) is backwards compatible with the 1.1....I was really hoping it was bus-powered but what is the electric adapter for then? I threw this is in a box. Lemme see if this services without AC voltage and report back tomorrow.

Thank you gentlemen. One of the ports in the 4-bank next to the ethernet on the back of the lenovo is dead--at least the I/O for the keyboard is useless for it.
If it's a $2 solution to have extra ports I tried. It was too cheap to be broken-hearted but I'd like a reliable bank of 2.0/3.0 external usbs...or make the lenovo that way...thinking.
