Mailspring from flathub wants to reconfigure accounts

Hello,

I have a problem installing Mailspring. It was in the Solus repository a while ago and worked perfectly. Then it disappeared from the repository, I got it from flathub, but every time I restarted the computer it wanted me to reconfigure the emails and ID. Mailspring is very convenient for my small team and because of it we all switched to Fedora. Fedora is OK, but it pulls me towards Solus, and the others don't mind if I can run Mailspring. Do you know any tricks?

There are security concerns as it uses outdated ssl libraries with known vulnerabilities. So it was removed until patched upstream. I have reported it to the Mailspring team, but that was several months ago. I would also suggest you report the issue to Mailspring devs to hopefully push this on their side.

A work around is Distrobox + Boxbuddy. You can then load Fedora and install it that way. There is little to no overhead.

If you want to use the flatpak version, your avenue of support will be the flatpak package maintainer.

Apparently the problem with Mailspring from flatpak is everywhere. In Fedora, if Mailspring from flathub is used, it gives the same errors as in Solus. It works if you install the prm file from the Mailspring website.
So if I want to go back to Solus I have to find another email client that everyone will like. Geary as an interface is OK, but there is a problem with old emails and sent emails.
I will try Mailspring AppImage.

There are about 3 packages I have to have but I'm flexible and enjoy new apps mostly. It's a PITA and a learning curve but if you find another mail aggregate you will be an expert in a week no matter what.
Handful of mail aggregates in repo and more in flatpak as you know. Have fun and audition some!

Out of interest, what does Mailspring offer that something like Thunderbird doesn't?

stocc Direct support for Office 365 business. You can do it on TB but it is slow for large setups. Much cleaner interface and overall better performance for multiple and/or large accounts.
If the dev behind it was more active it would be an amazing system.

I tried the built-in Vivaldi email. It looks good. But we use Firefox. You know, you create habits and then they are hard to change. And when you have to change the habits of 5 people of different ages, it is even harder. Yes, Thunderbird has everything you could possibly need. But it is a bit like Microsoft. There are too many things that you don't need.
Anyway, the other day I changed Fedora to Solus on my laptop and installed Geary. The others continue with Fedora and Mailspring, I don't need the features of this email client, I feel a little bad that I am with Solus and they are with Fedora, but I will get over it. 🙂

valst I don't actually use Vivaldi myself, but you can use it for email/calendar and nothing else. There is a way to set it where it launches straight into the email view. I just have a distrobox setup with Fedora running my Mailspring client for now. But I am trying to get myself off it, as it is a security concern, and the dev is just too busy with life to maintain it properly, unfortunately.
