BuzzPCSOS their slow old PC can be improved with an SSD, more RAM and an OS that gets security updates again, you need demonstrate that the new OS will run reliably before you can access the finance department and fix the hardware.
^^ this exactly, In my case the decrepit old Satellite I was gifted with 4GB and a spinning HDD could barely run Win 10 with 4GB. Probably because the Ghz insanely low and CPU weak.
I played my cards right on Ebay and got an 8GB stick and an SSD for less than $40. Was it worth it? Both those improved performance significantly and runs Solus Gnome normally...
...in my case, in your words, I was unable to demonstrate that the new OS will run reliably on the existing hardware. The investment paid off. If it could barely run WIN with 4GB then I knew it sure wouldn't run solus with 4GB.
BuzzPCSOS found that with 2GB of RAM it would still run Win10 quite proficiently once all the bloat had been got rid of. I no longer have any low-spec kit to experiment on so further tinkering on that machine will have to wait until it comes back.
I still have that bloat tool you steered me to on WIN when I have to update it. (I plugged in recently, to my dismay, to burn DVDs). That WIN was sailing pretty with a 2GB stick seems such an anomaly/oddity.
