Hello people, I've installed Solus OS with GNOME, the only difference I noticed is that has small font by default not as Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSUSE have. I tried using Tweak tool but I can't hide the accessibility tool, is there any way to scale it or make it bigger, at least the desktop not the apps themselves ?

Accessibility tool is only enabled by default on the lock/login screen (GDM). You can modify your login screen using GDM Settings which is available on Flathub:

flatpak install flathub io.github.realmazharhussain.GdmSettings

If you are talking about disabling it on the desktop, you can do that via Settings => Accessibility:

I am unsure if I understand your problem? Font is smaller, that's true, and I am thinking about to request to make default font bigger.

Is your issue that Tweaks doesn't launch?
Because there was a report about in on our dev tracker.
Might be related to a mesa bug that might get fixed on next update.

Sebastian Sorry for making you confused, yes my issue is with the font is smaller than other distros. Im not sure if it's a bug or something related to my laptop

farhatizakaria Well, it's not a bug, it's just that the default font size is smaller on Solus. Which should be changed in my opinion. It was bigger before, and then suddenly got smaller with GNOME 46 I believe a year ago. But Solus GNOME maintainer says he didn't changed it deliberately.
So, I still don't understand how come that it is smaller now.

But font as font size can be changed with GNOME tweaks.

@farhatizakaria Did you succeed changing font size with GNOME tweaks? In my experience 11 is good size, as Solus default is 9 I believe.

Correct, it's not vanilla gnome font.
But I'm out of reach of my computer at the moment so I couldn't check it.

All editions of Solus use the same default fonts: Noto Sans Regular. On Gnome edition, the default size is 11.

You can adjust the font and its size via gnome-tweaks on the Font section (Or using Refine):

Fedora ships (most of the time) whatever Gnome project recommends. It used to be Cantarell and Source Code Pro, now it is Adwaita Sans and Adwaita Mono. We are also considering a tweak to Gnome branding (font, icon theme, extension, apps, etc) for Solus, stay tuned and get in touch on matrix if you have opinion. Cheers!

Here's the default font with Solus GNOME Edition, no adwaita font or Cantarell font installed by default

Edit: I've installed Adwaita font with size 11, and now it's good

Ah, you are right. The issue was that even though font size was 11 for GNOME 45 and GNOME 46, in Solus top panel symbols and height started being smaller with GNOME 46 compared to Solus GNOME 45 and GNOME 46 on other distros. This is still unresolved in my opinion.

That's only the title bar font size, which doesn't seem to change anything in my system(?)

The default system font is Noto Sans 9 https://github.com/getsolus/gnome-desktop-branding/blob/master/schemas/org.gnome.desktop.interface.gschema.override#L7

The latter also seems to control the size of title bar fonts for me, so perhaps the former setting no longer does anything?

As alfisya said, Solus ships Noto Sans Regular. For some reason interface font size 11 makes symbols smaller in top panel as you are used to. By setting font size to 12 or 13, things look more normal with Noto Sans font.

Good that you have found a font that suits you.

Sebastian My GNOME install defaulted to Noto Sans Regular font size 9 (installed on a previous Budgie installation). I've just changed it to 11. So much better...

Some other posts I'm seeing online also seem to suggest that that setting was removed from GNOME with version 46, which would replace the sudden visual change without setting change from Solus' side

Staudey Gnome devs know better what users need. Small fonts for us all (with no option to adjust it quicky)! 😃

Excuse me if this is a bit of a repeat of what has been said above, but I am just on my first coffee.

Before you start fiddling with things set the base with scaling and font scaling factor:

Settings>Display>Scale>
I like 100% for 1080p and 200% for 4k but my eyesight isn't the best.

Scaling looks pretty good on you screenshot, so leave it.

Fonts;
Tweaks>Fonts>Scaling Factor>
I use 1.25 for 1080p and 1.33 for 4k

Now for the default fonts. I just did this yeasterday, and I remember the default being 10. I usually use Noto Sans Regular, so I just increased the size to 11 in the tweaks screen.

Still, you are right, the top bar could be thicker. There is an extension - Maybe "Open Bar" that will let you do that.

As for the Activities button "Hide Activities Button by zeten30" or "Just Perfection" can handle that.
