After installing nvidia

I used doflicky to install the nvidia drivers, but now I get a failure to boot: "startimage failed device error"

Any ideas?

Sticky What GPU do you have? If it's a 5000 generation then don't install the proprietary drivers. The Solus package doesn't support them yet due to lack of open kernel modules.

If not, did you do a full update before installing the driver?

I have a similar "startimage" error issue which has cropped up for me again

Error preparing initrd: Device Error
start_image() returned Device Error

You would have to use a live usb to terminal chroot into you main Solus OS, see Solus Help center

And do a rollback to before installing nvidia drivers

Rollback didn't work for me, I had to come up with a different solution

Thankfully, I don't have any important files saved so maybe just a clean install will be quicker.

Curious though, during the initial boot to install solus, there is the prompt to choose nvidia. I did that but it never installed the proprietary nvidia drives. What does selecting that option do?

Should I just choose the nvidia during install but not install the doflicky software?

Sticky I hear ya, was a pain in the derrière to sort on my system. If your doing a clean install again with the prompt for nvidia during installation & your able to do updates after install with no issues - skip the installing proprietary nvidia driver part. If it works without it & your not needing the proprietary driver for any specific reason, don't worry about it. Really depends on your use case/system spec.

It only contributes peripherally here, but that's the reason why I only want laptops with integrated Intel graphic cards and only recommend such a setup for Linux. I don't want the constant hassle.
Side note, I am not playing in any way
