Hello Solus team and community,
I’ve been following some of the recent discussions around Firefox’s changes to its privacy policies, specifically their new terms of service allowing the collection of user data for their own usage, potentially even sharing this data with third parties. This has raised concerns in the broader tech community, with distributions like Zorin OS deciding to switch from Firefox to Brave for new installs due to these changes.
I wanted to ask the Solus community: with these concerns in mind, is there any consideration of making privacy-focused browsers like Brave or Zen the default browser in future Solus releases? Zen, for example, is a Firefox fork that offers improved privacy features, and Brave has a strong reputation for blocking ads and trackers out of the box.
If the default browser isn’t changing, would it be possible for Solus to tweak Firefox’s default configuration (like what LibreWolf or Mullvad do) to disable telemetry and other data collection by default, making it more privacy-conscious for users right out of the box?
Thanks for your insights, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! Keep up the excellent work on Solus.
