Hi guys!
I just got an asus g14 zeyphyrus 2024 laptop as a graduation gift for college. I just got it set up on windows and I plan to dual-boot... unfortunately (for CAD software and maybe university tech support), but before I install solus os, I want to ask: how I should go about installing these two packages for the "gaming laptop" management. I want/need these packages for RGB control, mux switching, and undervolt/fan-curve management (afaik). How would I go about installing these packages on a fresh install? If anyone has the time to offer advice about what default packages to enable/disable and what first steps to take, that'd be great. (Or, are these packages something useful enough that I should just request them for the repository?) IDK about borking the install btw, my plan is to try and get things working and if I fail, I'll just wipe the install and try again. Then when it is stable, I will copy over my settings and apps from my 10 year old laptop.

asusctl
supergfxctl
asus-linux.org

Any help is appreciated, even just telling me to go read the docs and then run the make/install commands is helpful, if that's what I should try first.

I would like to emulate the settings available on this windows tool g-helper

Since no one is replying again, I'll just put in my two cents.

  1. IMO, you can request the package, but I’m not sure how much response you’ll get.
  2. You could start building the package yourself by following the instructions on the website. If you run into any issues or errors, post them here — we’ll definitely help.

Unfortunately we don't have any of those packages you mentioned. There is a package request for asusctl but nobody packaged and maintain it yet. I f you really want to use those softwares, then you have to compile it yourself, following the steps available in their repository. (Before compiling any software, please read our help center article about it first).

We do have a few alternatives: openrgbfor RGB lights control; switcheroo-control for dual-GPU setup; fan2go to control fan curve.

Don't hesitate to ask us more question (either here or on Matrix). Cheers!

Hey! I just got around to partitioning my drive and installing solus. The first issue I would like to work on is the speaker system. My g14 has 4 speakers that plug and play with windows, but only two are working in solus. In settings, I see an option for a) stereo or b) 4-speaker surround sound, but when I switch to 4-speaker surround sound, the speakers just go silent. Using alsamixer I tried going between the 3 available sound cards, but that made no difference. (One was labeled NVidia, and two were labeled default but I'm assuming one is the realtek and one is the AMD?) Do you or anyone else have any suggestions on what to try to enable all four speakers?

Note 1: Should I try hdarejack... it's not in the repo unfortunately. I believe that's a way to manually discover speakers (and hopefully enable my rear two speakers)
Note 2: When I boot back into windows, windows doesn't recognize the rear two speakers. A reboot fixed this, and disabling fast boot appears to have fixed that problem.
Note 3: I don't need surround sound per se, I just want my subwoofers to work and sound the same between oses. (I don't have dolby atmos or anything turned on, but the speakers sound distinctly fuller and louder in windows.)

TraceyC changed the title to Help with speakers on new laptop. .

To keep replies separate between issues, please create a new forum topic for each issue. So this one can focus on the speaker setup. If you have other issues, they would go in a new topic. This helps keep replies from becoming confused between issues. Thanks.

Before we can help you, we need to know what desktop environment you installed?

TraceyC What other information would be helpful in diagnosing my issues?

You'll need to wait for someone more familiar with the GNOME spin to help further. Please don't ping me in every reply. Thanks.
