from Phoronix:
"A merger between Linux independent Solus and Canonical Inc was announced today, with Solus Gnome becoming the flagship of Canonical Inc. All flatpaks will be disabled, and Solus would become Snap-dependent. Telemetry would be enabled in this venture, violating a longtime Solus position. 'Yeah, I got the email last night' said Staudey, a Solus maintainer.

"Canonical co-CEO David Debo reflects that "Solus for the longest time needed a sponsor, and we are that sponsor that could thrust Solus into the limelight and compete with Windows 10." Debo also announced the conversion to .deb packaging, from Solus' own eopkg, and plans for a rolling, immutable release. When asked what a rolling immutable update was, Debo said 'no comment.' Staudey, who refused to give his first name, went on to elaborate "now that we are owned by, I mean, partnering with, Canonical, certain sacrifices must be made.' He refused to comment further. Debo elaborated that 'many customizations that users are used to will be 'whittled down' and harder to find because 'uniformity be our emphasis."

"Debo, when asked about Solus' current tooling with moss, said only 'What's moss?'

I'm stoked!

I don't remember answering any questions like that, but then again I was pretty sleep-deprived yesterday.

alfisya changed the title to [April Fools] canonical-solus merger news! .

Sorry to be a party pooper, I have to change the titlle (it is April 3rd on my side). I just don't want any misunderstanding when people search things later on. It definitely got me tho. Cheers!

alfisya don't apologize, it is 2 days old. done on a whim. as a goof. none of it is true. feel free to delete it.
