Framework 13 - fingerprint support on gnome

Hi there !

When I installed Solus on my laptop, I was surprised to find that it didn't support the fingerprint reader out of the box, unlike distributions like Fedora or Ubuntu.

Is there a procedure I should follow that I've missed (perhaps a driver)? I saw that I had to install fprint and modify some config files, but when I tested it, it clearly didn't work.

Ciphreon I have a framework and my fingerprint sensor works. I believe you have to install fprintd as it’s not preinstalled.

uni-dos Did you just install fprintd or did you do something else? I ask this because after installing fprintd, both the terminal and gdm do not take into account the fact that I was able to register a fingerprint :/.

Sorry for the late reply. I run KDE so I was able to setup fingerprints in KDE settings. What Framework 13 do you have? I have the AMD version and I had to downgrade the firmware for the fingerprint reader, but that was a while ago.

uni-dos I have the AMD version also. Solus 4.7 with Gnome 47

I've found a solution, simply add the line below to the top of the file located at /usr/share/defaults/etc/pam.d/system-auth. I think I can adjust the second word to optimize it but it works ^^.

auth sufficient pam_fprintd.so

Ciphreon Be careful to not edit any file under /usr directory, because it will get overwrittten the next time the package (which ship these files) gets updated. It is part of our "stateless" design.

You can create the equivalent directory (if not exist yet) in /etc. My guess it will be /etc/pam.d/. Copy the "system-auth" file to that directory and make your modification there.
