I was guessing in which category this post belongs, so act accordingly.

Would it be possible to make something like voluntary "about me", "my motto" or "free description" etc. to forum user profile? As I can see there's only possibility to add avatar. You can't judge a book by it's cover...
As a privacy concerned person I surprise myself asking this question, but I've realized that often times it could be really helpful to conversation if people knew atleast something about a person who they are interacting/dealing with. And point being that such description would be absolutely voluntary and everybody could present themselves (or not) as they see benefical to themselves.
Of course a lot of profile's character can be understood from actual posts they've made. But you would definitely have different attitude and understanding when trying to help these 2 fictive new members:

User-001genZ: my motto "linux sucks @gaming" w/ some japanese manga avatar.

User-Orwille Millhouse, Description: Give me some slack, I'm 100 years old next june. Profile picture: scanned black and white photograph of Rusty the dog that died long time ago.

In my opinion. I don't know... what do you think?

qk4-li3 Seeing as most folks that initially visit the forum are looking for technical support, some kind of prompt to supply some relevant details about what firmware and software they are using would be more valuable. A short relevant biography could also be added into to this section also.
    Something like-

Solus Plasma Wayland, i5 gen 8 with embedded intel graphics, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. Retired, fills time walking dogs and trying to help others with less tech skills.

It would certainly speed up the response time for tech enquiries. To the best of my knowledge none of are proficient mind readers.
I think editing forum features is likely to be limited to "what you see is what you get" so would end up be a voluntary inclusion of a short profile when starting a new thread.

I would agree with the suggestion if the board software included this as standard and it could simply be switched on with a switch.

but not if it meant work for the already busy team.

at most it is a nice to have but not a must have

        AlphaElwedritsch

        https://github.com/FriendsOfFlarum/user-bio

Looks like it's a Flarum extension that could potentially be added to the forum, but I have no idea how much work that entails.

I agree that keeping the forum easily maintainable for the Solus team should take top priority over adding features, and adding a user bio could create additional moderation concerns for the bio content itself.

Although I must admit that I really like the idea about adding:

BuzzPCSOS relevant details about what firmware and software they are using

Question is, how many would actually use a user bio for that purpose? 🤔

beevomit Question is, how many would actually use a user bio for that purpose? 🤔

          I don't 😉

beevomit Question is, how many would actually use a user bio for that purpose?

I was lurking at ventoy forum and noticed for instance:
42 year old Ukrainian male, bio: construction, beer
47 year old Nigerian female, bio: wine tasting
The former I can believe, the latter is harder for me to believe and I found it quite funny 😆 It's possible though...

I don't know, slightly disagree. The prompt part I mean. People can have a lot of different equipment, and Solus in all of them and in spouse's/kids gadgets too. I think device in question should be described, if necessary, in the postings, and poster should consider providing necessary details when posting. Technical details are not always, often times necessary, I think. Well often times they are so...

That would give us more to moderate. I assume it does not have a global status change page so you could see only new bio changes, if that is true we would have to manually check every single user accounts bio just to see if there is a change.

Governments around the world have become increasingly draconian with their online safety laws creating unrealistic expectations for content moderation regardless of the size of the site. This has caused some websites to shutdown their forums such as GamingOnLinux in order to avoid potential legal issues.

Flarum does not provide user bio's as part of its core functionality so it would have to be an extension like the Friends of Flarum one noted above. When the forum software is updated it has the potential to break extensions until they are made compatible with the newer version.

All that for a feature I do not see the value in. So its a no from me. Note, this is just my position not necessarily that of the entire team.

We have a Matrix off-topic channel and a community hangout thread if people really want to talk about random stuff such as interests https://discuss.getsol.us/d/10564-community-hangout (No politics please).
